Michael started his industry career in 2003 and is a passionate people manager with over 16 years of experience. During his time with the Walker Funeral Group, Michael has been employed across all levels of business beginning as a Funeral Director and moving through employments as Arranger, Branch Manager and now as Group HR Manager / New South Wales General Manager.
Michael is the HR lead for the group overseeing all employee relations, recruitment, staff and contract management, performance management and compliance to regulatory concerns. In 2015 Michael managed the successful transition of staff from the Funeral Award to an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement specific to our funeral operations (approved by Fairwork Australia) and subsequent renewal of a new agreement in 2019. Michael is also Group Chair strategic planning and management meetings.
Michael’s NSW GM role sees him focus on providing effective leadership to his 12 direct reports and 140 staff who provide over 4000 funeral services per year throughout the state. Michael is supported in this role with an Assistant NSW GM Rebecca Pincott. During any acquisition Michael is responsible for ensuring the smooth transition via his strong interpersonal, negotiating and organizational skills, vast knowledge in funeral industry and its regulations.
Chief Operations Officer & General Manager – New South Wales
